Case Studies

Percheron LLC

Utilizing UAS technology, the Percheron Team identified vegetation and permanent fixtures encroaching on right of way, all without ever setting foot on the property.

Service(s): Survey, GIS, Aerial Imagery
Market(s): Midstream

The Situation

A client engaged Percheron’s Surveying and Aerial Solutions Team to inspect an existing right of way for potential encroachments before initiating easement reclamation. The client needed accurate, up front data to develop a detailed cost analysis prior to notifying landowners. To minimize outreach and disruption, the client prohibited physical access to the easement during the inspection.

The Strategy

Percheron conducted the inspection without entering private property by electronically locating pipelines from public access points and establishing Ground Control Points and check shots only in publicly accessible areas. UAVs were deployed to capture high‑resolution aerial imagery, which was processed using photogrammetric and surveying software. The resulting data was analyzed with GIS and CAD tools and compiled into comprehensive alignment sheets that documented all relevant encroachments and existing conditions.

The Success

With Percheron’s deliverables—including high‑definition imagery and detailed alignment sheets—the client was well‑prepared for reclamation discussions with landowners and could confidently plan associated costs. After reclamation is completed, the client plans to re-engage Percheron’s team to perform a post‑reclamation inspection and verify that all work has been executed to specification.
