The Situation
Percheron was engaged to perform high-level route development for a potential RNG pipeline associated with a landfill. Time was of the essence for the client to evaluate the potential project and make determinations on which projects to pursue and eliminate. The client’s goal was to quickly determine the potential distance to viable pipelines for interconnection and understand the number of potential stakeholders and property values. The expectation was to perform this analysis quickly to assist in evaluating the potential viability of the project.
The Strategy
After receiving the landfill location and other key parameters requested from the client, Percheron’s GIS Department utilized Pivvot and other GIS technology to identify existing pipeline infrastructure, land ownership, environmental hazards, and other potential stakeholders. This information was used to create several route options for connection to existing pipeline infrastructure. Our Title, Environmental, and Land Departments reviewed each route and associated line list.
Input from each team was routed to our Land Administration team which consolidated the information and prepared the report in a standardized format. By clearly identifying the requested deliverable and following a standardized process and reporting, the deliverable was produced quickly and efficiently.
The Success
Percheron’s success was driven by the ability to bring multiple departments and subject matter experts to the project with an efficient process to develop routes, gather data and compile a summary report. The RNG client received a high-level review of potential route options, stakeholders, environmental concerns and land values for a potential project. This information allowed the client to evaluate the project’s merits quickly.
With Percheron’s GIS-based routing and site selection tool along with expertise from Title, Environmental, and Land Administration high-level route options can be created and evaluated for early project scoping with a standardized report format.
