Complex Hydrogen Bypass Pipeline
The Situation
A client engaged Percheron to provide comprehensive services from conceptual design through construction for the installation of a 7-mile, 20-inch hydrogen bypass pipeline. The project was located within a highly congested pipeline corridor, presenting significant design challenges and requiring extensive coordination with multiple pipeline owners and government agencies. Percheron’s experience and integrated service approach enabled a streamlined process, and successfully achieving project objectives.
The Strategy
Percheron implemented a coordinated, multidisciplinary strategy to address the complexities of designing the hydrogen bypass pipeline within a constrained and highly congested corridor. This approach integrated engineering, surveying, and permitting services to maintain alignment across all project phases and ensure efficient execution.
Engineering efforts focused on developing a constructible design that accounted for existing infrastructure, minimizing conflicts while meeting safety and regulatory requirements. The design also incorporated twelve horizontal directional drill (HDD) crossings, which were critical to safely navigating existing utilities and minimizing surface disruption within the corridor. Survey teams delivered precise mapping and as-built data to inform design decisions and validate site conditions. Concurrently, the ROW team proactively managed access, stakeholder coordination, and land considerations to support uninterrupted progress.
Securing both environmental and non-environmental permits was critical to project success. Percheron leveraged its experienced permitting professionals to navigate regulatory requirements, expedite approvals, and ensure full compliance while minimizing schedule impacts.
Given the sensitivity of the corridor, Percheron maintained frequent engagement with the pipeline corridor owner through ongoing coordination meetings, design reviews, and approval processes. In parallel, the team partnered closely with the client, fostering transparent communication and collaborative decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. This integrated, partnership-driven strategy enabled effective risk management, streamlined execution, and successful delivery of project objectives.
The Success
Percheron is currently advancing construction of the hydrogen bypass pipeline within a highly constrained and congested corridor, demonstrating its ability to navigate complex technical and stakeholder challenges with precision. Through consistent coordination and proactive problem-solving, the project is progressing without major changes to scope, schedule, or design.
As construction progresses, the project continues to reflect a well-coordinated and disciplined approach, maintaining safety, efficiency, and operational continuity within the corridor. Percheron’s collaborative execution and reliable delivery are providing the client with confidence and a seamless project experience.
