Large-Scale Unit Buildout in the Appalachian Basin
The Situation
Percheron was engaged by a long-standing client, a successful oil and gas operator with extensive operational expertise in the Appalachian Basin. The client requested Percheron’s support in building a drilling unit encompassing approximately 3,000 unitized acres. The project involved more than 700 mineral owners across 132 mineral tracts, creating a high level of complexity.
The client required accurate ownership information, detailed reporting, and clear visibility into progress from leasing inception through project completion. Ensuring precision, accountability, and timely execution across multiple stakeholders was critical to the project’s success.
The Strategy
Upon receiving the client’s initial data and project parameters, Percheron’s project management team developed customized reports designed to track progress, identify issues, and keep the client fully informed throughout the lifecycle of the project.
A dedicated field team was deployed and worked closely with the client’s land management and Land Administration (LAD) teams through completion. From project kickoff, the objective was to maintain close collaboration among all stakeholders, address challenges proactively, and resolve roadblocks as they arose.
Percheron’s Operations (OPS) and LAD teams remained in consistent communication and mutually accountable to project timelines and deliverables. This coordinated approach ensured alignment, minimized delays, and supported steady progress toward final unit formation and execution.
The Success
Despite numerous challenges inherent in a project of this size and complexity, the drilling unit was completed on time. The client commended Percheron’s high-quality deliverables, strong communication, and the performance of the project team at every level.
As a result of the successful engagement, Percheron was re-engaged for additional unit buildouts and acquisition work, further strengthening a long-standing and trusted client relationship.
