Percheron’s Commitment to Environmental Stewardship 

Now that we have introduced ESG at Percheron let’s take a deeper dive into our commitment to environmental stewardship. Our commitment is reinforced by one of our core values: “Leave it better than you found it.” This principle shapes our approach to all projects, propelling us to minimize our internal and external environmental impact and contribute positively to the communities where we live and conduct business. Further, it fulfills our vision of making lives better through these sustainable practices.

Our internal commitment to environmental stewardship supported through four key components. Three components were previously introduced in What the heck is ESG? including an immediate realized paper reduction of over 1.1 million pages through an internal digital transformation; partnering with Shred Recycling for programs at corporate and regional offices; and decreasing employee vehicle and plane travel through work from home and digital meetings. Between 2018 and 2023, there has been a continual reduction in billable mileage resulting in a total decrease of over 2,000 miles on average per employee. 

The fourth factor surrounds our office lease considerations. On long-term leases for regional offices, our high-level considerations include space energy efficiency, on-site recycling programs, and the capability for monitoring and reporting emissions, water consumption, and waste generation. Currently, more than half of our 24 offices are reporting data for Scopes 1 and 2 emissions to be included in the ESG report.  

To minimize our external environmental impact, we actively seek adopting green technologies, minimizing our impact on biodiversity on the lands which we traverse, and engaging in local environmental efforts. 

Adopting Green Technologies 

Percheron is committed to leveraging fresh technologies to enhance sustainability. These technologies include using energy-efficient equipment in our projects. By staying at the forefront of this innovation, we can reduce our environmental impact while exceeding standards of quality and efficiency. This forward-thinking approach helps us bridge the gap between stakeholders’ expectations and our environmental responsibilities. In 12 months, we recycled over 670 pounds of electronics that have reached end-of-life, resulting in saved water, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and diverted toxic metals.

Minimizing Impacts on Biodiversity 

Our projects often involve large tracts of land, and we take our responsibility to preserve local ecosystems sincerely. We implement practices that are mindful of regional biodiversity while continuously seeking improvement. Actions like this benefit both the environment and support the communities in which we operate. When Percheron’s drone program launched in 2017, we amplified our positive impact through less invasive techniques and more in-depth data on sensitive areas such as wetlands and cultural sites. This consequently made for routing lines to minimize impact on local ecosystems. In areas where impact is caused, Percheron works with landowners and other groups to benefit native wildlife by selecting land-enhancing grass seed mixes. 

Community Engagement and Support 

Percheron understands that environmental stewardship extends beyond our operations. We actively engage with the communities where we work by supporting local environmental initiatives and charities. Whether participating in local tree-planting events or providing educational resources on sustainability, we aim to positively impact both locally and nationwide. These types of mindful community-level investments create and foster a culture of environmental responsibility. Percheron’s ESG Committee encourages participation in Earth Day activities through contests, including grassroots activities such as donations, sustainable shopping, zero waste initiatives, energy and water conservation, and carbon footprint reduction education.

Last, we are committed to continuous improvement and innovation. Environmental stewardship is an ongoing journey. We continuously seek new ways to improve our practices and reduce our environmental footprint. Our practices include:

• Encouraging our employees to contribute their ideas and initiatives.
